The Ambassadors are seeking your help to learn about the valuable fish populations in Lake Windermere!

Project Overview

As we monitor the health of Lake Windermere there are some areas where we have knowledge gaps. Through recent projects we have tried to address those gaps, for example our water quantity project implemented in 2018 and out water bird report completed in 2018. Fish populations is next on our list!

Historically we know some of the fish listed below have been found in Lake Windermere:

  • Burbot
  • Northern Pikeminnow
  • Large-scale Sucker
  • Rainbow Trout
  • Kokanee Salmon
  • Redsided Shiner
  • Mountain Whitefish

And, we know that some other fish have been introduced to the lake (such as Largemouth Bass and Pumpkinseed Sunfish). We are now trying to figure out what fish are in the lake and in what abundance!

This information will be used to support grant proposals to learn more about the populations of fish, and may lead to stewardship projects to support these populations if there is a need.

How to Get Involved

We have put together a simple survey to complete if you fish in Lake Windermere and would like to share what you are finding. The survey can be found and completed below. If you would like to share more information we have also developed a catch record that you can complete on any fishing outing throughout the year. This form is also included below:
