Here we are in November, bracing cooler temperatures and anticipating the resulting frozen top of the lake.
It means the opening of the Whiteway and ice fishing season. It means outdoor hockey rinks and bonspiel sheets with yellow lights strewn above (pictured below at the 2015 Snowflake Festival!).
Every year, the surface of Lake Windermere freezes over while fish and plant life go on with their business merely a layer beneath. What a phenomenon! All guesses have been collected… Who will win the contest and correctly predict the freezing date and “Catch the Freeze”???
