Why everyone loves the lake
Lakes Appreciation month July 2019 contest
This past July, we ran a contest to celebrate Lakes Appreciation Month. We wanted to hear from you, to find out all the many reasons why people love Lake Windermere. Here are some of the answers we received:
- Beautiful with the mountains
- It can be such an enjoyment early in the morning to connect with nature and check-in with self
- Swimming in warm water
- Ospreys!
- For peaceful family kayaking trips
- The stunning wetland and the swimming
- Great sailing lake
- It’s so clean I can see the bottom
- So much fun swimming
- Because there are fish
- Fishing, Kayaking
- Love spending time at the beach and in the water with family
Most of the answers had to do with how beautiful the surrounding mountains are, how clean and warm the water is for swimming, and the fish and birds who share their home with us.
The Lake Windermere Ambassadors have a mission to spread awareness and educate everyone about keeping the lake healthy and minimizing the impact of our communities.
In the relationship between humankind and our environment, there exists a delicate balance between preservation and enjoyment. To completely preserve a landscape, we would have to stay far away and leave it completely untouched. However, we believe the strongest drive to look after something first has to come from a place of appreciation. Spending time kayaking along the shores, taking an early morning swim or lounging in the sun at the beach all remind us we have something to fight to protect. It may not be an easy task, but we all have to make an effort to enjoy Lake Windermere responsibly so that it stays clean for years to come.
Congratulations to Tina Friedenberg for winning the contest! We hope you have a fun rafting trip down the river.
